Cygnus the Swan may have a new feather in it's wing if chatter on Amastro about a "new" reflection nebula pans out. Visual Observers using 8-inch and larger telescopes reported nebulosity surrounding / extending from 5th Magnitude star 4 Cygni. Reflection nebula do not respond well to filters but filter experimentation is encouraged. Click "READ MORE" below for a printable 4 Cygni finder chart.

The month begins with the Moon at last quarter, meaning 21 days have passed since new Moon. It will be full on September 23, which, coincidentally, is the day after the Autumn Equinox. Luna’s close encounters for the month begin on the 1st, when it is less than a degree from the Pleiades (M45).
